TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM MANAGER

The Edmonton Waste Management Centre of Excellence (EWMCE), an international leader in research, technology development, advisory services and training in all areas of waste management, is looking for a Technology Development Program Manager. This position is primarily based at the Wastewater Research & Training Centre located at EPCOR’s Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant in Edmonton. The salary will depend on qualification and experience.

Key responsibilities include:

• Provide overall leadership and management of the EWMCE’s technology development activities, including development and implementation of the annual program budget and hiring and supervising staff
• Work closely with the EWMCE’s management team and support the activities of other Centre programs by contributing to the development of the Centre’s strategic, operational and financial plans
• Identify and attract revenue-generating projects for the EWMCE to ensure the economic sustainability of the EWMCE, serving both private-sector clients and EPCOR’s wastewater treatment operations
• Establish strategic alliances with key industry, academic, research and government organizations and funding agencies, identify funding opportunities and negotiate project agreements
• Play a key role in marketing the EWMCE’s current and future technology development activities to the Centre’s regional, national and international markets
• Provide technical support in design, commissioning and operation of pilot and demonstration-scale facilities and equipment, ensuring compliance with relevant industry specifications and standards

You have a degree in Engineering, are eligible for APEGGA membership, and have 3-5 years of private-sector experience in wastewater treatment. An advanced degree in Business will be an asset.

You are a mature, self-motivated, highly organized and flexible individual who is a strong communicator, with superior interpersonal, communication, teamwork and management skills. You demonstrate extensive and proven knowledge of Canadian business practice and culture. Experience with SME business development, technology development and commercialization and intellectual property management will be an asset.

You will also possess strong organizational, analytical, planning and problem-solving skills, along with the demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage simultaneously multiple projects under tight deadlines. Supervisory experience is required.

You must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and supply your own vehicle for business use as required. You will be reimbursed in accordance with the Centre’s car allowance policy. On-site parking is provided. Limited traveling nationally and internationally will be required.

ASSISTANT MANAGER - Niagara Falls, ON

Job Description:
This is a highly intense service oriented position, involving working as a team player and maintaining the repute of the hotel. There are essentially two seasons operating at our facility, the “off-season” and “on-season”. The “on-season” will involve lengthy hours, and maintaining customer satisfaction. The “off-season” is quite the opposite, less working hours, generally assisting in maintaining the hotel and supervising and/or undertaking projects required for the hotel. The following are the general and daily duties;

General Duties:
- Support and execute tasks delegated by the Senior Manger with all the aspects of the hotel operations.
- Assist in scouting surrounding competitors, and a making marking recommendations.
- Communicate with other managers to plan large events.
- Assist in developing and implementing policy and procedures at the hotel.

Daily Duties
- Schedule and supervise staff to ensure consistency and efficiency in day to day operations.
- Assign room duties to housekeeping attendants, and follow up with hygiene inspections.
- Assign maintenance to maintenance crew at our facility, and follow up with their work.
- Maintain check in and out customers on a daily basis.
- Maintaining and supervising occupancy levels of the hotel, especially during the “on-season”.
- Provide customer service as needed.

Optional Duties
- Assist in repairing and/or renovating rooms in the “off-season”
- Undertake assist in projects involved with the hotel
- Undertaking or attending workshops to assist in improving the gross income of the hotel

Job Requirements:
Have prior experience in the hospitality/customer service industry
- This is an essential requirement. Previous experience in high stress and customer satisfaction environments is essential. The previous experience must involve servicing or catering to customers in an intense environment.
Bilingual especially English, Punjabi and Hindi will be significant factor.
- Preference will be given to these individuals, as the owners of the hotel are fluent in these languages, and clear communication between the owners/managers will create a successful relationship.
Business oriented and team player
- Previous experience of working in a team environment is crucial for a successful applicant. There are two group of staff that the assistant manager will be required to supervise, and ensure they all work as a team.
