Job Description:
Responsibilities
• Research and write position papers on behalf of the Halifax Student Alliance, as directed by the board to assist with policy development
• Assist in the development of all policy statements, standing orders and bylaws
• Prepare and distribute news releases in accordance with Halifax Student Alliance policy statements
• Prepare and coordinate briefing documents, media conferences, and awareness events as directed by the membership
• Maintain coordination with external groups, government officials and other student organizations as required
• Supervise the home office and manage the financial affairs in conjunction with the treasurer, and operational affairs of the office.
• Other duties as determined by the board, chair and officers
Qualifications
• Experience in policy development – specifically surrounding transportation, housing and crime and safety issues
• Experience in advocacy work
• Knowledge of municipal and provincial government jurisdictions
• Completion of a post-secondary degree an asset
• Experience working with student groups an asset
• Self-motivated, ability to work unsupervised
Details
• 30 hours/week
• The successful candidate will begin working as soon as possible, with the term ending on June 1st 2008. There is potential for extension of the contract.
