Job Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Residential Manager, the incumbent will:
- Be able to serve as a positive role model for staff and clients.
- Perform multiple tasks that are delegated by the Residential Manager.
- Perform monthly administrative reports and ensure accurate record keeping.
- Maintain effective communication with the Residential Manager and clients.
- Promote independence and encourage decision making through recognition and respect of individual client’s interest and choices.
- Coordinate each client’s activities on a week-to-week basis to ensure a balance of personal and social opportunities to promote recreation, community interaction and individual relationships.
- Assist with the supervision of staff as required.
- Provides leadership to create a respectful working environment conducive to effective working relationships.
- Applies conflict resolution skills to successfully mediate workplace conflict issues.
- Is willing to work with an individual with aggressive tendencies.
- Ensures safety compliance, safe working conditions, safe procedures and practices and adherence to them as set out in The Workplace Safety and Health Act.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of a high school diploma or equivalency.
- Certificate in Disability and Community Support is an asset.
- Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset.
- Sound knowledge of developmental disabilities and experience working in the field.
- Current Emergency Level first aid certificate and Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
- Demonstrated skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Excellent written and interpersonal skills are required.
- Knowledge of Alzheimer’s is an asset.
