Job Description:
STEPS Forward Inclusive Post Secondary Education Society provides support services to young adults with intellectual disabilities in inclusive post secondary education. Currently students are being supported at UBC, UVIC and Emily Carr Institute. STEPS Forward is currently searching for a facilitator(s) for the Kelowna area. Candidates are not expected to necessarily have experience in this field. The emphasis in carrying out this job is on inclusion and not on skills training or teaching. Staff training is provided upon hiring and is on-going.
Job Description: To assist students with intellectual disabilities to become engaged as individuals in their campus and employment. The facilitators support the young adults to select and participate in courses, extracurricular activities, summer employment, network with teaching staff, peers, employers and families. A large part of the support requires the facilitator to be very creative in identifying potential interests and career goals with the students and finding natural peer support for these activities.
